Bible Verses About Being Chosen and Not Forgotten

Being overlooked hurts in a particular way. You were not rejected loudly. You were simply passed over, left out, or never picked. If you are carrying that ache today, these Scripture passages are for you. Each is quoted from the King James Version, followed by a short reflection.

Chosen: you were picked on purpose

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you.” (John 15:16)

Jesus says this to ordinary people. Their standing did not come from their résumé or their résumé’s gaps. It began with his choice. If your story has taught you that you are the one nobody selects, begin here.

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world.” (Ephesians 1:4)

Before the world began, before any of your hard chapters, you were already in view. Your worth was settled before anyone had the chance to ignore it.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

The word “peculiar” here means a people belonging to God, held as his own. Belonging is the heart of being chosen.

Known by name

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee… Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)

A name is personal. God does not address you as a category or a case. If you want to stay longer with this verse, read our reflection on Isaiah 43:1.

Not forgotten

“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.” (Isaiah 49:15-16)

This passage admits something honest: people can forget. Even those who should not. Then it answers with a promise that does not depend on anyone else’s memory.

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” (Psalm 27:10)

For anyone who has known abandonment, this verse does not hurry past the pain. It names it, then says there is One who gathers you in. More in When You Feel Forgotten.

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?” (Luke 12:6)

If a sparrow is not forgotten, neither are you. Small and unnoticed is not the same as unseen.

“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5)

This promise is one of the verses Margaret chose for a coloring page, because some truths settle best when you give your hands something quiet to do.

How to carry these verses

You do not need to absorb all seven at once. Try this:

  1. Choose the one verse that stirs something in you today.
  2. Read it slowly, out loud if you can.
  3. Write one sentence about where you have felt overlooked.
  4. Pray it back to God in your own words, or simply sit with it.
  5. Come back to it tomorrow.
